Brooklyn Richardson is an experienced champion for public education and advocate for parental and community engagement. Her strong and consistent support for students, teachers, and staff across Arlington ISD are hallmarks of her dedication and unwavering commitment to building strong schools and communities.
The daughter of a Baptist preacher and a Volunteer Services Coordinator, Brooklyn grew up in Sherman and Abilene. Through her parents’ work, she gained a boots-on-the ground appreciation for how faith-based and volunteer communities work hand-in-hand with leaders to make schools and neighborhoods better. While still in high school, Brooklyn went to work for a local news affiliate (KTXS). Later, as a student at Hardin Simmons University, she became the morning television producer for KRBC (NBC) in Abilene. There she learned to understand the power of stories of real people and their lives - a strength that endures through her relational leadership still today.
Brooklyn made Arlington her home beginning in 2008. Recognizing that every child’s educational experience is determined, in part, by the community that supports them, Brooklyn volunteered to serve on the Site-Based Decision Making Committee for Roark Elementary in east Arlington. This community of working parents and volunteers banded together and developed notable private-public partnerships with local businesses such as General Motors. With this experience, Brooklyn felt called to be more connected in this district.
For more than a decade, Brooklyn has served Arlington’s parent communities in numerous ways. Early on, it was by leading an area-wide play group that connected mothers and children together in educational and community events. Later she served on the Executive Board of the Early Learning Center at Trinity United Methodist Church. She has held multiple PTA leadership positions (from local through Council levels), including the role of President of the Corey Academy PTA. Here she has been instrumental in shepherding the transition from primary to secondary Fine Arts Dual Language Programs across the district, as well as championing parental options through AISD’s programs of choice. A five-year volunteer with New Day Ministries, Brooklyn is at the forefront of addressing food insecurity for students and families in Arlington. New Day partners with our local schools to make sure students will not go hungry over the weekend. Among her many contributions to our community, she serves as a Girl Scout Co-Troop leader for Troop 3544 and coach for her son’s Bubba Ball Baseball team.
Brooklyn serves on the Westminster Presbyterian Church Staff as Director of Youth & Children Ministries. She is also a founding member and on the Board of Directors for The River School, which serves children with autism. Through her ministry, she is an active advocate for children with special needs, their families, and support staff.
Brooklyn lives in Arlington with her husband, Keith, and their two children, who attend AISD schools. They have four rescue dogs, Fredricka the cat, and a bearded dragon named Cream Puff. Brooklyn thrives when surrounded by children and families as they work to make a positive impact in the world! She knows there is always more to learn, stories to hear and people to meet here in Arlington! Brooklyn is looking forward to doing just that.
